Frequently Asked Questions

What is a business day in Japan?

A business day (営業日) in Japan is any weekday (Monday–Friday) that is not a national public holiday. This calculator automatically excludes all Japanese national holidays and substitute holidays.

How many calendar days is 10 business days?

10 business days is typically about 14 calendar days (2 weeks). However, if there are national holidays within that period, it can extend to 15–16 or more calendar days.

Are Japanese holidays excluded?

Yes. All national holidays designated by the Cabinet Office are excluded, including substitute holidays (振替休日) when a holiday falls on a Sunday.

Are substitute holidays also excluded?

Yes. When a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday becomes a substitute holiday and is automatically excluded from business day calculations.

How do I calculate a payment deadline of "3 business days"?

"Within 3 business days" means counting from the next business day after the starting date to the 3rd business day. Use the "N Business Days" mode, enter your start date, and set N to 3.

How to Use the Business Days Calculator

In Japanese business, deadlines are often expressed in business days (営業日). "Please reply within 5 business days" or "Delivery in 10 business days" are common phrases. This tool calculates the exact date by excluding weekends and all Japanese national holidays, including substitute holidays (振替休日).
